NEW from Logitech, the Z-5 USB Speaker System, for both Mac and PC, features omnidirectional acoustics--an innovative speaker technology, previously found only in expensive home theater systems. Omnidirectional acoustics provide great sound at a more consistent level, no matter where you are in the room due to the design which allows the drivers to radiate the sound from the sides and backs of the towers. Because they are connected via USB, there's no bulky power adapter, and it's easy to move them from room to room. The word here is simplicity. The two slee, black towers don;t intrude. These speakers also include a sleek mini-remote control that lets you wirelessly navigate from across the room. The remote has a quick-launch button that can be programmed to launch iTunes, Windows Media, or the audio application of your choosing. Great for laptops and iPods. The sound is rich and bassy wihtout a separate sub-woofer. I tried this system in an ordinary living room and it sounded just like the more expensive speakers I have on the stereo system. They weigh in at 1.5 lbs for the left speaker and 1.66 lbs. for the right, and measure 10-inches high by 3.3-inches wide by 3.3-inches deep. USB connectivity delivers pure digital audio that's easily moved with your laptop from room to room, without the need for external power adapter or batteries. List is $99, but street price can be as low as $70. |

Easy to use, no batteries and portability.
I asked to review this for a perosnal reaosn. My wife can't see very well and this keyboard is Heaven-sent. Now she can type without having to put on all the lights in the apartment and two desk lamps. USB peripherals are still popular and sometimes necessary due to no battery dependencies and no link disruption due to other wireless devices operating in the near vicinity. Plus, better compatibility with USB hosts than wireless keyboard variants. Logitech's newest keyboard featurs backlight key illumination and is a boonto those who work in low light areas, planes, trans and so forth or who have vision problems. Both keyboard and embedded back-light are powered through the USB port on the computer as this can supply up to 500mA. No additional power transformers are required for the back light functionality or keyboard operation. With its thin 9.3mm profile, the keyboard can easily slip into a backpack for use as a travel keyboard. There's no need for an extra USB LED light on the laptop with this either. The Logitech Illuminated Keyboard lighting is well distributed along all key characters. There is little to no back-light leakage between the keys which helps reduce the impact the keyboard may have in your office/house-hold ambient lighting should you wish to use it's back-light functionality. The back-light is controlled through a single key mounted in the top-right corner of the keyboard and causes the back-light to gradually shift light intensity down in 4 stages until completely switched off. Pressing the back-light key again will then cycle the back-light back to full intensity. This amazoing peripheral has a lot of advantages and features over standard desktop keyboards with its hybrid notebook/desktop key layout makes it very easy to use. The non-ergonomic and near standard key layout has the Page Up, Page Down, Home, End and Del keys all mapped above the cursor control keys. The numeric keypad layout is standard with the only non-standard feature being the addition of separate buttons above the numeric keypad to control back-light intensity, sound volume and sound mute.
